Summary: The Amsterdam Mohawks remain undefeated after a 15-9 victory over the Saugerties Stallions on Sunday. Through two innings it was either team’s game, with the Stallions ahead 9-8 after scoring six runs in the first and three runs in the second. The Mohawks then took over, scoring seven runs through the rest of the game to jump ahead to fifteen runs. The Stallions went silent after the second, not scoring for the remainder of the game. The Stallions now go to 3-3 on the season and have now taken its first loss at home.
Key Players
Lewis Rodriguez (Stallions): Rodriguez stood out against the Mohawks, going 3 for 4 with two RBI, a run and a walk. Rodriguez was one of three Stallions to record multiple hits on Sunday (Danny Barbero, Casey Cumiskey)
Danny Barbero (Stallions): Barbero had an impressive night at the plate, recording two hits in five at bats, an RBI and two runs.
Pitching Notes
Stallions Pitching: Pitching was a struggle on Sunday for the Stallions with all 15 runs for the Mohawks ending up as earned. Andrew Speranza, despite allowing six runs, had good command on Sunday, striking out six batters.
Team note: This is the Stallions first loss at home this season.
Game Conclusion:
The Stallions take their first loss at home this season against the current best team in the division. Despite struggles on the mound, the Stallions still demonstrated impressive offense in the early innings of the game. With most of the season in front of them, the Stallions have plenty of time to continue to develop throughout the summer.
