Date: July 9, 2024
Start Time: 06:45 PM

Game Summary
In a challenging outing at Shuttleworth Park, the Saugerties Stallions faced a tough defeat against the first-place Amsterdam Mohawks, losing 18-2. The Mohawks dominated the game from the start, showcasing their offensive strength and capitalizing on the Stallions’ pitching struggles.

Game Highlights

Early Inning Onslaught: The Mohawks set the tone early with ten runs in the first two innings, including a six-run second inning barrage that effectively put the game out of reach early. Key hits and several Stallions’ errors contributed to the large deficit.

Stallions’ Struggles: Saugerties’ pitchers had a difficult time containing Amsterdam’s lineup, with starter Leam Powell and relievers struggling through the innings. The Mohawks capitalized on every opportunity, pushing across runs in multiple innings including a seven-run sixth.

Sole Stallions’ Rally: The Stallions scored their only two runs in the sixth inning, sparked by Justin Ford’s two-run homer. However, this brief rally was not enough to mount a comeback.

Mohawks’ Consistent Pressure: Amsterdam continued to extend their lead, including scoring runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Evan Haeger, among others, had multiple RBIs, contributing to the overwhelming offensive display by the Mohawks.

Key Players

Justin Ford (Stallions): Provided a highlight for Saugerties with a two-run home run.
Evan Haeger (Mohawks): Was a key part of the Mohawks’ offensive output with multiple hits and RBIs.
Jackson Natili (Mohawks): Drove in runs and maintained pressure on Stallions’ pitchers throughout the game.

Pitching Notes

Winning Pitcher: Justin Shadek – Delivered three solid innings, holding the Stallions hitless and setting the stage for the Mohawks’ victory.
Losing Pitcher: Leam Powell – Faced a tough outing, surrendering seven earned runs over just 1.2 innings.

This game was a tough test for the Stallions, facing the league-leading Mohawks and struggling to find their rhythm both on the mound and at the plate. The Mohawks demonstrated why they are atop the standings with a robust display of hitting and effective pitching. The Stallions will need to regroup quickly as they face the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dogs tomorrow at home, hoping for a stronger performance.
