Six members of the Saugerties Stallions were selected to partake in the 2019 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game, which will take place on July 16 in Saugerties, NY. All six will play for the East Division squad. This year’s selectees represent the Stallions largest All-Star contingent in franchise history.
Pitcher Lane Miller (Indiana State) and outfielder Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) were named starters in the game. Miller’s 1.95 ERA sits fifth in the league rankings, while his 34 strikeouts is the third-most in the PGCBL. Both numbers pace the Stallions’ starting pitching staff. Kelder, in his third year with Saugerties, leads the Stallions in batting average (.326), home runs (5), runs batted in (20), and doubles (8). His home run total is tied for third best in the PGCBL. Infielder Jake Skrine (Indiana), outfielder Dillon Lifrieri (Arkansas), and pitchers Austin Cole (Arizona Western) and Henry Funaro (UMASS Lowell) were selected as reserves. Skrine has the third highest batting average on the Stallions (.321) and is tied for the most runs scored (18). He’s played at five different positions this season, including designated hitter. Lifrieri, a second year Stallion, has batted in 19 runs this season, good for the second most on the team. He also has nine extra base hits. Cole, a Red Hook native, holds a 1-0 record with a 2.76 ERA. He’s struck out 23 batters compared to 11 walks. Funaro has served as the primary closer for Saugerties, leading the team with six saves and recording 21 strikeouts in 11.1 innings. His 1.58 ERA is the lowest on the team.
“We are very proud to have all of our guys represent Saugerties in the PGCBL All-Star Game,” said Saugerties Stallions Head Coach Collin Martin. “They are all having very fine seasons, and we are excited to watch them play in front of the hometown crowd.”
The 2019 PGCBL All-Star Game will take place on July 16 at Cantine Field in Saugerties, the first time the town is hosting the event.
