Saugerties, N.Y. – The Albany Dutchmen (1-0)  utilized an early offensive surge en route to a 9-5 victory of the Saugerties Stallions (0-1) on Friday night at Cantine Field.

Six of the Dutchmen’s nine batters scored at lease one run, including three players with two runs each.

Ben Metzinger (Louisville) and Aaron Roose (Azuza Pacific) paced the Albany offensive, notching two hits apiece. The two also a contributed a combined three runs.

The Dutchmen started off strong, scoring two runs in the first inning and one more run in the second frame. Both runs in the first inning were unearned, while the run scored in the second inning came off the bat of Ryan McGee (SIena).

The Stallions responded with three runs in the third inning to tie the game. Isaac Nunez (Florida) drove home two of the three runs on a single to right-center field. He finished the day 3-5 at the plate.

Albany scored two more runs in the fourth and knocked home three more in the fifth inning to take a 8-3 lead.

The Stallions rallied in the seventh inning with a two-run frae to cut the deficit to three runs, but the Dutchmen tacked on a run in the ninth to seal their 9-5 victory.

Blake Bales (Virginia) picked up the win for the visitors. The righty dealt three scoreless innings of work with seven strikeouts out of the bullpen. He was one of five Albany pitchers, with Anthony Amoroso (Suny New Paltz) starting the game and Ian Foggo (The Citadel) closing out the game.

Zach Strickland received the loss for the Stallions. The second-year Stallions surrendered three runs in two innings, yet only on of the three runs was earned. Strickland was one of four Saugerties pitchers to take the mound.
