Cantine Field and the Fourth of July go together like free hot dogs and Stallions baseball. A Stallions baseball game is the place to be on the Fourth of July for a number of reasons. Not only is it a great place to bring the family for a very affordable price, but it is also the best seat around to see an amazing fireworks show after watching nine innings of America’s favorite past time–some good old fashioned baseball.

Cantine Field set an amazing attendance record of 1,743 people on our nation’s independence day. With this feat came a new promotion called the 1,000 Fan Challenge, where the Stallions organization makes a $500 donation in one lucky fan’s name to any charity the fan pleases, as a big thank you to their dedicated fan base.

The night also brought about free hot dogs and cotton candy to the fans that decided to spend their Fourth of July night with the Stallions’ family. This family fun atmosphere has fans excited on a weekly basis to come and watch the home team play. One fan in particular, Jack Segman, a forty-two-year-old father of two, talked with me about being a Stallions fan and bringing his family to Cantine Field on the Fourth of July.

When asked about how he became a Stallions fan, he had this to say, “ I moved here from the west coast about two years ago and didn’t know many people, when I heard about the Stallions baseball team I decided to come to a game with my kids so we would have something for us all to do, and the kids really loved it.” When asked about his favorite player on the team this year, he responded, “ I really like that kid on third base, Tyler Kelder. He hits the cover off the ball each time up to bat it seems, and he makes some really smart plays on defense.” When asked if he had any advice to give the team for the remainder of their season, he said, “ Just keep going out there every night and giving it your all. The fans really appreciate it, especially the kids.” Finally, when asked about why he had brought his family to Cantine Field for Independence Day, he simply said, “What’s better than baseball and fireworks?”

Even though the home team Saugerties Stallions didn’t get the win for their fans on the Fourth of July, it was still a family fun filled night as the players, coaches, and the fans all sat and watched the explosions and beautiful colors in the sky just over center field after the game.
