On Monday, January 2nd the Saugerties Stallions announced that Tom Whitaker will lead the Stallions for the 2017 campaign. Whitaker, a lifetime Saugerties resident, brings a well rounded knowledge of baseball to the dugout. Throughout his life Whitaker has played baseball at various levels and has also coached many teams in Saugerties. After starting the year as a member of the Advisory Board, Tom was asked to fill a roll on the Stallion’s Bench for the remainder of the season. If you attended a game this past summer you could see Whitaker spending a lot of time with individual players perfecting their stances, fielding ability, or just overall knowledge of the game.
After another subpar season in the PGCBL, the Stallion’s Front Office put a lot of effort into the recruitment of the 2017 squad. The roster will consist of players from all over the country with all but one program playing in the division 1 ranks of college baseball. The roster will be made up of power hitting corner infielders, fast and defensive minded outfielders, and quality catchers who will be the leader on the field. Our pitching staff of 19 will have wide variety of pitchers who will be able to pitch in various situations of the game.
We are very excited to have Tom Whitaker at the helm of the franchise and look forward to the 2017 season!
