Game Recap: Fireworks for the Stallions on the 4th, Defeating the Blue Sox

Date: July 4, 2025

Time: 6:00 p.m.

 

Summary: Fireworks were flying on the fourth of July for the Saugerties Stallions, who claimed a 6-5 victory over the Utica Blue Sox. It was quiet on the offensive front for the Stallions early in the game, trailing 3-1, until an explosive four-run 6th inning finally put them ahead of Utica. Utica, though, kept the game close, scoring runs in the 7th and 8th to pull within one heading into the 9th. The Stallions’ defense then stepped up and secured the one-run victory at home, improving the team’s record to 14-10 on the season. 


Player of the Game:

Justin Ford (Stallions): Awarded player of the game honors, Justin Ford went 3-4 with 3 RBI and a run. His outstanding offensive performance fueled the Stallions, pushing them to last night’s victory. 

Pitching Notes

Andrew Speranza (Stallions): Speranza had a good starting outing, pitching four innings, allowing two earned runs and recording four strikeouts.

Matt Murtaugh (Stallions): Murtaugh was one of the heroes of yesterday’s game, coming in the 8th and 9th innings to protect the Stallions’ lead, a job he accomplished, allowing no runs and a strikeout.


Game Conclusion:

A special victory on the fourth of July will also be a short-lived one, with the Stallions moving on to play another game on Saturday. The Stallions will travel to Oneonta, where they hope to extend their win streak to three games.
