Stallions Hold On for 7-4 Win Over Outlaws at Home

 SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – The Saugerties Stallions (8-3) jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first, and held on for a 7-4 victory over the Oneonta Outlaws (0-7) at Cantine Field on Tuesday night.

The Stallions started the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Kip Fougerousse (Indiana). They quickly extended the lead to 3-0 when the next batter, Tyler Kelder (St. Bonaventure) homered to straightaway left field.

Saugerties extended the lead to 4-0 in the second inning, after an RBI groundout by Colin Mackle (Marist) scored Jack Renwick (Wofford).

The Stallions added another run in the 5th inning, when Tyler Kelder drove in his third run of the night, singling to drive home Fritz Genther (Virginia Tech), pushing the Saugerties lead to 5-0.

Oneonta put up a fight, however, getting on the scoreboard in the 6th after an RBI groundout from A.J. Gaich (Yale) scored Paul Tammaro (SUNY Oswego). Two more Outlaw runs came across in the 7th inning, with Isaiah Corry (SUNY Binghamton) scoring on a wild pitch, and Josh Paino (St. Mary’s) scoring on a single from Keoni Coloma (St. Mary’s).

The Outlaws cut the lead to one in the 8th inning, when Gaich doubled in another run, scoring Jacob Hand (WPI). However, the Stallions responded, scoring two in the bottom of the inning on a single from Jakob Marquez (Washington State).

Ben Johnson (Georgia Southern) started for the Stallions, earning the victory. He threw 3.1 scoreless innings. He held the Outlaws hitless, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Rey Rodriguez (Webber Int.) picked up the save, throwing a scoreless 9th with 2 strikeouts.

Kyle Locklear (Clarkson) started for the Outlaws. He was charged with the loss, allowing 4 runs in 4 innings. He struck out four batters while walking five.

The Stallions improve to 8-3, and will host Glens Falls at Cantine Field on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The Outlaws fall to 0-7, and will play at home against Albany at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
