Offensive explosion powers Stallions to season-opening win over Oneonta

 

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – A 13-run night powered the Saugerties Stallions (1-0) to an opening night 13-9 win over the Oneonta Outlaws (0-1) on Thursday at Cantine Field.

The Stallions raced out of the gate with two first-inning runs. Josh Stevenson (LSU) crossed home after recording a base hit on the first pitch he saw.

Oneonta responded quickly in the second with three runs of its own. A triple by Keoni Coloma (St. Mary’s) knocked in all three runs for the Outlaws in the inning.

The teams traded jabs throughout the middle innings, with Oneonta scoring three runs in the fifth to grab a 6-5 advantage. Saugerties then scored four in the bottom of the sixth, due to three runs that came off an error by Outlaws’ right fielder Keaton Mark (Heidelberg).

Saugerties then added three runs in in the seventh to put the game away for good and pick up its first win of the season.

Austin Cole (St. Rose) got the start for Saugerties and went two innings, surrendering one hit and two earned runs. Richie Cimpric (Franklin Pierce) picked up the win, pitching three innings, giving up four hits, no earned runs and striking out two.

Matthew DuBois (St. Peters) got the start for Oneonta and picked up the loss. DuBois pitched five and two thirds, giving up eight hits, six earned runs and struck out six.

In total, Saugerties had 11 hits and left nine runners on base. The Outlaws had six hits and stranded eight on base on the evening.

Oneonta takes on Mohawk Valley tomorrow night at 7 and the Stallions return to action tomorrow night at Glens Falls. First pitch is at 7:00 and you can stream it live on Facebook.
