Short was 6-1 for the Tigers. He threw four complete games, including two in the postseason. He tossed a four-hitter with no earned runs against Pine Bush in the quarterfinals and another four-hitter with just one earned run in the title game versus Monroe-Woodbury. Short was one of the big pieces in leading the Tigers to a Section 9, Class AA baseball championship. He never surrendered more than five hits in a game all season. Opponents managed just 26 overall and batted .138. He allowed just six runs all year in 55.1 innings and only three of them were earned. He issued just eight walks while striking out 55. He fanned 11 in a game against Middletown. Short also did an outstanding job at third base when he wasn’t pitching. He also shined as a set-up man batting second in the Kingston order. He hit .312 with 22 hits, 17 walks, 17 runs and an on-base percentage of .429. Short is the brother of Zack Short, who played for the Tigers’ 2012 state championship team and who was recently drafted and signed by the Chicago Cubs.
